Welsh assembly chairmen will meet with the UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Greg Clark to urge for the support for the Swansea Bay tidal lagoon project.
The meeting, scheduled for July 27, 2017, will be attended by assembly chairmen Simon Thomas and Russel George who will reiterate Welsh cross-party support for the proposed Swansea Bay tidal lagoon project and call Clark to support the scheme, according to BBC .
“It would be an extremely poor message to those involved in the Swansea Bay City Deal region if we lose a huge renewable investment project in the tidal lagoon due to dither and delay,” Simon Thomas was quoted as saying by BBC.
The Welsh representatives are reportedly going to emphasize support the project received in a Hendry Review into tidal lagoons, and seek more precise estimate as to when the decision on the lagoon would be made.
The Swansea Bay tidal lagoon proposal includes the construction of 320MW power plant and associated infrastructure that will comprise 16 hydro turbines, a six mile breakwater wall, and be capable of generating electricity for 155,000 homes for the next 120 years.
