DesignPro has launched a tender seeking a certified river or estuary test site to deploy and test a 25kW hydrokinetic river turbine as part of its Horizon 2020 project.

Test sites will need be able to accommodate the device in the last quarter of 2017 for a period of up to 6 months and will be required to carry out testing activities across a range of relevant service parameters, the Irish company DesignPro said.

This includes assessing environmental impact of the unit, the physical performance of the turbines and electrical power output from the unit throughout the testing period.

DesignPro aims to advance the technology readiness level (TRL) of the device, currently at TRL 6, and prepare the technology for full commercial deployment.

The deadline to apply for the tender on the Irish government’s procurement portal has been set for August 13, 2017.

To remind, DesignPro secured €2.5 million through EU’s Horizon 2020 program to commercialize small-scale river turbines of up to 100kW utilizing GKinetic’s technology.
