Prime Minister of Norway Erna Solberg on Monday got a tour of Aibel’s yard in Haugesund, where a drilling platform for the Johan Sverdrup offshore project is being built.
Statoil-operated Johan Sverdrup is one of the five largest oil fields on the Norwegian continental shelf, with expected resources of between 1.9—3.0 billion barrels of oil equivalents.
Two and a half years ago, Prime Minster Erna Solberg came to Aibel to witness the signing of the company’s largest contract to date – the engineering and construction of the drilling platform for the Johan Sverdrup field. On Monday, she visited the yard in Haugesund, where the result of the last couple of year’s work now fills the giant North Sea assembly hall to the top.
“An impressive sight,” the Prime Minister said as she was shown around the yard.
The Johan Sverdrup drilling platform will consist of three modules. The modules are being built simultaneously at three different yards. The two largest modules are being built at Aibel’s own yards in Haugesund and Thailand, while the smallest module is built by Aibel’s collaboration partner Nymo in Grimstad.
According to Aibel, in Haugesund alone, the project has employed approx. 3,000 people over the last couple of years.
Minister of Health and Care Services, Bent Høie , Member of Parliament, Tina Bru , and Mayor of Haugesund, Arne-Christian Mohn , also took part in the tour.
