Standing 140 metres tall and weighing 26 000 tonnes, the first jacket for Johan Sverdrup is the largest on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

The steel jacket will carry the riser platform, which is one of four platforms being built in the field’s first development phase.

It was built at Kværner’s shipyard in Verdal. Two of the three other jackets will also be produced there.

The RP jacket was given the name Aegir at a ceremony held at Kvaerner’s yard in June this year.

Kvaerner has been awarded the contract for three jackets and the utility and living quarters (ULQ) topside together with KBR for the Johan Sverdrup development.

At Kvaerner’s yard at Verdal, the work for the remaining two jackets is said to be progressing as planned and at Kvaerner’s yard at Stord, the Johan Sverdrup ULQ topside is on schedule.

The next Johan Sverdrup jacket in line for delivery from Verdal is the Drilling Platform (DP) jacket which will be completed early in 2018, followed by the Process Platform (P1) jacket to be completed during summer 2018.
