Temporary restrictions are being introduced on the sulfur content of fuel used and the movement of vessels carrying certain types of cargo in Xiamen Bay, China during the BRICS summit in September 2017, Xiamen People’s Government said in a notice.
As a result, ships entering the waters of the Port Area of Xiamen Bay are prohibited from using fuel oil with a sulfur content above 0.5% during 1 to 6 of September 2017.
Oil tankers, chemical tankers, liquefied gas carriers and ships carrying packaged explosives, flammable gases, and liquids, infectious or radioactive substances are prohibited from entering or departing from the waters of the Port Area of Xiamen Bay from 20 to 26 of August 2017.
Loading and discharging of dangerous goods will be prohibited within the Port Area of Xiamen Bay.
Ships carrying dangerous goods other than those classified as Class 8 (corrosive substances) and Class 9 (miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles) are prohibited from entering into or departing from the waters of Port Area of Xiamen Bay from August 27 to September 6 2017, Gard marine insurer said.
The move is said to be a safety precaution measure ahead of BRICS international relations conference scheduled to take place from 3 to 5 of September 2017. The summit will be attended by representatives of the five member countries Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
