Martek Marine has been contracted to provide emissions monitoring systems for the world’s first LNG-fueled Aframax tankers being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries for Russia’s Sovcomflot.

The 114,000 DWT Ice-class IA Aframax tankers, measuring 250 meters in length, 44 meters in width and 21 meters in height, are scheduled to be delivered from the third quarter of 2018 and to be chartered to Shell.

The order for the four vessels is valued at $240 million, Martek Marine said on Friday adding that a Hyundai Heavy Industries official said the shipyard is looking to secure more orders for similar vessels.

Martek Marine’s contract with HHI specifies the supply of low-pressure selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The emissions monitoring system will then monitor the emissions and thus the efficacy of the SCR through analysis of NOx, SOx and CO2.
