Fourchon LNG requested a permit from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to begin the environmental pre-filing review of its proposed LNG export project in Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.
Fourchon LNG proposes to site, construct, own, and operate a natural gas liquefaction facility with a peak capacity of approximately five million metric tons of LNG per annum (mtpa) and a ship berth on Belle Pass, Port Fourchon, according to the letter sent by the company to FERC.
In its initial phase, the project would have a capacity of 2 mtpa, followed by the remaining trains to reach full 5 mtpa capacity.
The company plans on exporting the produced liquefied natural gas to both Free Trade Agreement and Non-Free Trade Agreement countries and expects to file its application with the Department of Energy very shortly.
Energy World Corporation, Fourchon LNG’s affiliate, has targeted as potential customers gas-fired power plants in the Asia-Pacific region both that it will develop and that are owned by others.
Fourchon LNG also plans to market LNG to Jamaica and the wider Caribbean and Energy World may also develop gas-fired generation in the Caribbean, the letter to FERC reads.
The proposed facility itself would include up to 10 liquefaction trains with 0.5 mtpa production capacity, two 88,000-cbm storage tanks and one marine loading berth capable of receiving up to 180,000 cubic meter LNG carriers.
After receiving commission authorization and obtaining all other necessary permits, Fourchon LNG intends to commence construction in phases, with the first phase commencing in the third quarter of 2019.
