Eni Norge, a Norwegian subsidiary of the Italian oil giant Eni, has joined the Siemens Subsea Power Grid joint industry program (JIP ).
Siemens said on Monday that its subsea department was developing a complete subsea power network with a group of partners, led by Chevron and including Statoil, Exxon, and Petrobras.
According to Siemens, the JIP is one of the main initiatives in the offshore oil and gas industry for advancing large scale subsea processing.
“The Siemens Subsea Power Grid will provide oil companies with the tools needed to use subsea processing on a wider range of projects including long step-outs, deep water (3000m) and in remote areas. Ultimately the Subsea Power Grid will be a key enabler for building the full subsea factories of the future,” added Siemens.
The company added that Siemens Subsea power solutions also provided opportunities for oil companies to achieve increased oil recovery from existing fields.
The program which includes the manufacturing, testing and qualification of complete power modules in a system configuration is currently in its final stage before the solutions will be commercially available to offshore oil and gas operators.
