The fourth liquefaction unit at Cheniere’s Sabine Pass export terminal in Louisiana, currently the only such facility to ship US shale gas overseas, is expected to produce its first commissioning cargo this week, according to Cheniere’s chief executive Jack Fusco.
Train 4 achieved first LNG production in late July and will “produce its first commissioning cargo later this week,” Fusco told analysts during the company’s second-quarter results conference call.
The company expects substantial completion of the liquefaction unit in the next few months.
Cheniere is developing up to six trains at Sabine Pass with each train expected to have a capacity of about 4.5 million tons per annum.
The LNG export plant shipped over 160 cargoes or about 575 trillion British thermal units (TBtu) since it started exporting the fuel in February last year.
These cargoes landed in 24 countries by the end of July. Almost half of the Sabine Pass cargoes were shipped to Latin America, followed by Asia, MENA and Europe.
