Spain’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) rose 39.7 percent in July on a yearly basis, according to the data provided by the LNG terminal operator, Enagás.
LNG imports reached 15.6 terawatt hours (TWh) in July, as compared to 11.18 TWh in the same month the year before.
More than half of the LNG imports came from Qatar and Nigeria, followed by volumes from Peru, Norway, Egypt, the Netherlands, Algeria and the U.S., the data shows.
Enagás’ Barcelona regasification plant received 6 out of the total 17 LNG cargoes imported into Spain during the month under review.
The report shows that the Huelva LNG import terminal and the Bilbao facility received four cargoes, each, while two landed in Sagunto. The Cartagena LNG terminal received one cargo.
Enagás recently said that Spanish gas demand rose by 17 percent in July, the largest monthly increase in the summer months since 2008, on the back of the higher usage of the fuel for both electricity generation and the industrial sector.
For the year to date, the demand for natural gas in Spain has increased by about 7.6 percent compared to the same period in 2016.
