The Port of Rotterdam is making good progress with the construction of the new Offshore Center, said the port authority today.

The Port Authority will be developing Rotterdam Offshore Center on a maximum of 70 ha of new land at Maasvlakte 2.

The contract for the creation of new land has been awarded to PUMA, a joint venture of the two Dutch hydraulic engineering firms Royal Boskalis Westminster NV and Van Oord NV.

At the moment, the rainbowing is being conducted by Boskalis’ mega cutter Helios, one of the largest and most powerful cutter suction dredgers in the world.

During the reclamation, approximately 7 million m³ of sand will be extracted from offshore sites and port basins. If everything goes as planned, the entire port site will be rainbowed on by late 2017.
