Dare County recently announced that Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company completed beach nourishment operations in the Town Southern Shores on august 6th and is now focusing efforts in the town of Kitty Hawk.
According to the latest video update, GLDD is pumping south from the subline landing located just south of the Kitty Hawk pier.
Over the course of the week, the contractor expects to move to the subline located between Luke and Bennett Streets, initially working their way north towards the completed northern project area before flipping and again working their way south towards the subline located near Lillian St.
The county also announced that in Buxton pumping has resumed after a shut down of operations due to rough sea conditions with approx 27% of the project complete.
In an effort to speed up the nourishment project, the contractor – Weeks Marine – plans to bring in second vessel, a hopper dredge.
