The sea trials of DEME’s 3.500m³ LNG-powered trailing suction dredger (TSHD) Minerva were successfully completed a few days ago, Royal IHC said in its latest announcement.

The TSHD Minerva, launched on December 3, 2016 at Royal IHC’s shipyard in Kinderdijk, is the first vessel of this kind in the world.

This dual fuel (diesel and LNG) dredger, powered by ABC (Anglo Belgian Corporation), has a ‘Green Passport’ and a ‘Clean Design’ notation, complying and exceeding with the strictest international emission requirements.

The naming ceremony of the world’s first LNG-powered hopper dredger took place on June 23 in Zeebrugge, Belgium.
