Welsh wave energy developer Wave-tricity has hired Williams Shipping to tow its 150-tonne wave energy device in the Milford Haven area.
In addition to towage services, Williams Shipping will also perform laying, recovery and servicing of moorings for the 26-meter long Ocean Wave Rower device, according to the Welsh government’s procurement portal Sell2Wales.
The contract, awarded on July 12, 2017, also covers crane support services for loads of no more than 10 tonnes to be provided by Williams Shipping at the same time as the towage services, as well as laying and recovery of wave-rider buoy on a single sinker mooring, it is stated in the contract award notice on the portal .
As reported earlier, Wave-tricity deployed the Ocean Wave Rower device for trials off Pembrokeshire in March 2017.
More recently, the company awarded a £400,000 contract to Mainstay Marine Solutions that covers design, engineering, and maintenance support for the second phase of Wave-tricity’s wave energy device development.
