Uruguayan operator Antel has inaugurated a submarine cable connecting Uruguay to Brazil and the United States.

The 2000 kilometers long section of the cable links Punta del Este to Fortaleza in Brazil.

Antel has the exclusive use of two pairs of fiber, in a cable that includes a total of six fiber pairs, which translates into a transmission capacity of 40 Terabits per second, the company said.

Furthermore, the infrastructure will connect to Monet subsea cable which connects Boca Ratón (USA) with Fortaleza and Santos in Brazil.

The Monet submarine cable is jointly owned by Antel, Google, Angola Cables and Algar Telecom.
