DEME’s subsidiary MEDCO (Middle East Dredging Company) has been awarded a contract for the Old Doha Port Redevelopment project in Qatar.

In Singapore, DIAP (Dredging International Asia Pacific Pte Ltd) also secured a contract for the Ayer Merbau Reclamation Phase 2 project, DEME said in its latest release.

The total value of these contracts amounts to approximately EUR 170 million.

Old Port Redevelopment Qatar

For the Old Doha Port Redevelopment project in Qatar MEDCO will execute the dredging works for the realignment of the access channel. Works also include the construction of a new mooring dolphin structure.

The works follow the completion of the New Port Project in Qatar, for which MEDCO successfully carried out the dredging of the access channel. The New Port is now fully operational and all commercial shipping traffic has been moved from the Old Port in Doha City to the New Port.

The port will serve as a cruise terminal in the future, able to accommodate the largest cruise ships of the last generation, according to DEME.

The contract for this project, set to begin in 2018, will be carried out by MEDCO in joint venture with Jan De Nul Group.
