Ichthys Venturer, the floating production, storage and offloading facility (FPSO) for the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG project, has been moored in the Ichthys field, 220 kilometers off the north coast of Western Australia.

The 336-meter long FPSO will remain at its position for 40 years without dry dock.

Commenting on the mooring operation in the 250-meter deep waters of the Ichthys field, managing director of the Ichthys LNG project, Louis Bon , said it marks a significant milestone for the project.

During the mooring operation 21 pre-installed mooring chains, weighing more than 15,000 tons, have been connected from the seabed to the FPSO.

The FPSO has been designed to process and store most of the condensate delivered from the Ichthys LNG project’s central processing facility, Ichthys Explorer, moored some 3.5 kilometers away, before periodically offloading it to carriers for export to market.

“Ichthys Venturer has a storage capacity of 1.12 million barrels of condensate and will have a continuous operating life of 40 years,” Bon said adding the FPSO will undergo hook-up and commissioning to support the start-up of its operations.

The Ichthys LNG project is expected to produce up to 8.9 million tons of LNG per annum and 1.65 million tons of LPG per annum, along with approximately 100,000 barrels of condensate per day at peak.
