Hartlepool-based subsea cable specialist JDR has manufactured the inter-array cables for the 588MW Beatrice offshore wind farm, Beatrice Offshore Wind Farm Ltd (BOWL) said.

Beatrice comprises 84 Siemens 7MW wind turbines and two Siemens Offshore Transformer Modules which will be inter-connected by 91 x 33 kV medium voltage alternating current submarine composite cables.

JDR, soon to be part of the TFKable Group, manufactured the 33kV submarine composite cables at its Hartlepool facility. The installation works are scheduled to start in the Outer Moray Firth, Scotland, later this year, BOWL said.

JDR will also provide Siem Offshore Contractors GmbH with termination and testing services for the wind farm’s inter-array cable system.

Beatrice wind farm is located approximately 13km off the Caithness coast line on the north-western point of the Smith Bank.

The wind farm is developed by a joint venture partnership between SSE (40%), Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (35%) and Red Rock Power Ltd. (25%) and is expected to become fully operational in 2019.
