Wave Hub has completed the inspection of its subsea cable system installed as part of its wave energy test site infrastructure sited off Cornwall in the UK.

The work was conducted by Bristol-based subsea services provider Rovco Subsea which used the Severn Sea workboat on an area of up to 100 meters of either side of Wave Hub subsea cables.

The inspection included the multibeam echosounder bathymetry and ROV visual survey of the complete Wave Hub subsea power cable system.

The inspection program also involved the first commercial trial of Rovco’s 3D visualization technology to create scaled, high resolution models of subsea infrastructure.

Julius Besterman , Head of Engineering and Operations at Wave Hub, said: “Periodic subsea inspection is essential to ensuring that the cable system is well maintained to afford projects with a reliable offshore connection, and we were extremely pleased to allow Rovco to trial their 3D system on our site.

“The results obtained were superb and enabled a very detailed asset and seabed condition assessment as well as providing valuable information for projects intending to connect at Wave Hub.”

The works took ten day to complete, wrapping up the operation on August 30, 2017, according to Wave Hub.

Located 16 kilometers offshore from Hayle on the north coast of Cornwall, at the eastern edge of the Atlantic Ocean, the Wave Hub site provides shared infrastructure for the demonstration and proving of offshore renewable energy technologies.
