Giant Japanese shipowner K Line and Kawasaki Kinkai Kisen Kaisha (K Line Kinkai) said Wednesday they will work on a joint study for what would be Japan’s first LNG-powered ferry.
The passenger ferry will be owned by K Line Kinkai, and the study includes specifications, engine types and any related technical verifications for LNG handling, according to a joint statement.
K Line Kinkai said it has already been working on the concept and this deal will boost the progress.
Having more than 40 years of experience in operation and management of liquefied gas carriers, K Line Group has also been studying introduction of various types of LNG-fueled vessels, including car carrier and tugboat as well as LNG supply business.
