Seventeen innovators in the Dutch water sector have made it to the final round and will pitch their ideas at the Making Waves event being held today at Afsluitdijk storm barrier in the Netherlands.

Making Waves will be held in the presence of former Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Anan, Dutch Chief of Defence Tom Middendorp and Minister of Infrastructure and the Environment Melanie Schultz van Haegen.

The event has been organized by the Dutch government to give promising innovations a stage and to help the development of the ideas to implementation.

Among the seventeen innovators, wave energy device from Slow Mill Sustainable (SMS) Projects, and Bluerise’s ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) concept have been selected as the ideas to be showcased at the event.

Also, Fish Flow Innovations will present its fish-friendly technology for producing hydropower, while Elemental Watermakers will showcase its desalination technology, based on reverse osmosis solutions, driven by solar, wind, wave or the grid.

The winning innovation of this final round, held on September 7, 2017, will represent the Netherlands at the European innovation event, Ideas from Europe, that will start later this year.

Ideas from Europe scouts ideas with societal and economic impact in all European countries, and subsequently facilitates the joint development of these ideas.
