Minesto has added four new electrical and mechanical engineers to its Holyhead office over the summer to support its tidal energy operations.

The Swedish-based tidal energy developer Minesto said the new members of the team will strengthen both its onshore and offshore operations in North Wales.

Judith Thomas-Jonas , Country Manager for Minesto UK, said: “We are very pleased to welcome our new colleagues on board.

“These recruitments really boost our engineering force in Wales. What is also pleasing is that we have been able to source this experience and competence locally; all of our new colleagues live on Anglesey, with three of them originally from the Island.”

The new hires include that of Dafydd Griffiths as an Electrical Engineer who will primarily work on the micro-grid power system development.

Dylan Roberts has been employed for the role of Onshore Mechanical Engineer who will focus on onshore PTF (power transfer fastening) and power plant assembly.

Phil Jennings is Minesto’s new Mechanical Engineer who will primarily work on Minesto’s offshore Launch and Recovery System (LARS), while Ricky Molyneux will take up the role of an Electrical Engineer.

Minesto has developed tidal technology called Deep Green which has been designed to produce electricity from low-velocity ocean and tidal currents.

The device consists of a wing that resembles a kite, and the power is produced when the water current creates a hydrodynamic lift force on the wing which pushes the kite forward.

The company plans to install the 500kW Deep Green tidal power plant in Holyhead Deep in 2018.
