US-based wave energy developer Resolute Marine Energy (RME) has launched several requests for feasibility studies for its project in Cape Verde in the central Atlantic Ocean.

The requests for expressions of interest are related to a series of feasibility studies which will take place at the proposed W2O project deployment site in Praia Grande.

The studies include capacity building initiatives to be undertaken in partnership with the Cape Verde National Institute of Fisheries (INDP), and cover site characterization and resource assessment.

The W2O project involves commercial demonstration of Resolute Marine’s wave-powered desalination technology, Wave2O.

The system is expected to operate completely ‘off-grid’ and supply more than 48,000 people with fresh water at a competitive cost.

The initiative has been financially supported by Sustainable Energy for Africa (SEFA) grant, secured by Resolute Marine early in 2016 through the African Development Bank (AfDB), to cover certain pre-deployment costs associated with the W2O project.
