India’s LNG imports slide in August

India’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) declined in August, according to the data from oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

India’s imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) declined in August, according to the data from oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC).

India’s imports reached 2.08 billion cubic meters of LNG, or about 1.54 million mt in August, dropping 2.9 percent compared to the corresponding month in 2016.

Import costs for the month of August were at $0.5 billion, according to the PPAC data.

Domestic natural gas production rose again in August, reaching 2.77 Bcm, or 3.7 percent higher compared to the corresponding month in 2016.

In the April-August period, India imported 9.93 Bcm of LNG, declining 4 percent on year.

The country currently imports LNG via Petronet’s Dahej and Kochi LNG terminals, Shell’s Hazira plant, and the Dabhol terminal operated by Ratnagiri Gas and Power.
