Orkney-based marine consultancy Aquatera has won an award at the annual SCDI Highlands and Islands Business Excellence Awards for its worldwide marine renewables activities.
Business leaders from across Scotland gathered in Inverness earlier in September to celebrate their business achievements at the annual SCDI Highlands and Islands Business Excellence Awards, presented by Deputy First Minister John Swinney MSP.
The awards showcased the accomplishments of organizations from across the Highlands and Islands and celebrated business excellence in a range of sectors, from local authorities initiatives and fish farming, to marine energy and transport.
Amongst the winners on the evening was Aquatera’s Managing Director, Gareth Davies, who received the Liberty British Aluminium Award for Outstanding Business Ambassador.
Davies was recognized for helping to steer the development of marine energy and renewable technologies, alongside being an excellent ambassador for the sector and the region.
Some of Aquatera’s achievements span as far as Japan , where the company became member of the Nagasaki Marine Industry Cluster Promotion Association, partnering at the same time with the Japanese company Shibuya Diving for the delivery of marine energy projects in Japan and South Asia.
Also, Aquatera has together with Orcades Marine Management Consultants (OMMC) formed a Singapore-based partnership with local company OceanPixel to provide marine operations planning, management and verification services in South East Asia.
Gareth Davies , Managing Director of Aquatera, said: “I am delighted to receive this award and particularly appreciate the recognition it gives to creating a global business from an island base. Over the last 3 decades remarkable achievements have been made in Orkney – it is truly one of the world’s most sustainable communities.

The awards are run by Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) and supported by SEPA, Crown Estate Scotland and Liberty British Aluminium.
