OCEANIC project team has deployed a set of samples off the coast of Portugal to study fouling and corrosion on materials used for the construction of marine renewable energy devices.
The second set of samples was installed off Peniche in Portugal, at a deployment site of AW-Energy’s WaveRoller wave energy device, on September 21, 2017, the OCEANIC team has informed.
The test panel with materials will serve to identify the coating solution that maximizes the protection of materials against marine growth and corrosion.
The deployment is part of the Oceanera-Net backed project OCEANIC which aims to develop ecologically friendly solutions for the corrosion and fouling protection of ocean energy devices.
The secondary goal of the project is the monitoring and mapping of different fouling pressures and fouling related corrosion in several European ocean energy test sites.
To remind, one of the partners in the OCEANIC project, WavEC Offshore Renewables, has recently completed the first round of testing at Peniche site that measured the amount of marine growth attaching to the WaveRoller’s panel and its seals.
