Irish oil and gas explorer Providence has plugged and abandoned the 53/6-1 ( Druid & Drombeg ) well offshore Ireland.

To remind, Providence in mid-September said it had failed to find hydrocarbons at the prospect, hitting a porous water-bearing reservoir interval.

The well is located in Frontier Exploration Licence (FEL) 2/14 in the southern Porcupine Basine offshore Ireland, and is operated by Providence Resources (56%) on behalf of its partners Capricorn Ireland Limited (a subsidiary of Cairn Energy, 30%) and Sosina Exploration Limited (14%).

Providence on Tuesday said the Stena IceMAX deep-water drillship, which was used to drill the 53/6-1 exploration well in FEL 2/14, had completed all requisite P&A operations.

“The drillship, which is now off hire, departed from the Druid Drombeg well site yesterday afternoon and is transiting back to Las Palmas, Gran Canaria,” Providence said.
