The 9,962 TEU CMA CGM Ganges briefly ran aground while exiting Guayaquil, Ecuador, on September 25, Oceanbulk Containers, the ship’s owner, told World Maritime News.

Due to the low tide, the Post-Panamax suffered a soft grounding in the mud.

Following the grounding, class and other relevant authorities were informed immediately.

“There was no pollution or water ingress or any abnormalities observed,” Oceanbulk Containers said.

“It is worthwhile to note that an erroneous report was issued alleging that the incident resulted from a mechanical failure, which is entirely false and incorrect,” the company pointed out.

A few hours later, with the high tide, the vessel was successfully refloated and got permission to sail to its destination with full speed.

Built at Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyard in South Korea in 2015, CMA CGM Ganges is currently moored near Buenaventura, West South America, according to the vessel AIS data.
