Mitsui O.S.K. Lines’ 290-metre-long LNG carrier Papua rescued four yachtsmen off Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea on September 18.
The 172,000-cbm carrier received a distress relay message from the Australian Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centres on September 17.
Survivors were rescued and handed over to a rescue boat arranged by the Australian authorities off Port Moresby early in the morning of September 18.
The LNG carrier built by the Chinese Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding was underway toward the Port of Qingdao in China from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
The vessel is the first custom-build tanker for the Papua New Guinea LNG project and the Gorgon LNG project in Australia, providing liquefied natural gas transportation to major customers in Asia.
