eDrilling, a provider of drilling and well performance solutions, and Petrovietnam University have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a long-term engagement to drive digitalization of drilling operations in Vietnam.
In 2010, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued a decision on establishing the Petrovietnam University as a special public University with the mission to carry out high-quality research and training for the development of human resources of Petrovietnam.
The company said on Tuesday that it would provide a suite of software solutions ranging from planning, through training, real-time operations, analysis, to learning.
Dr. Phan Minh Quoc Binh , Rector of PV University, said: “Due to current shortages of skilled designers and engineers, particularly in the oil, gas and power industries, PVU desires to improve the knowledge and technical skill of its lecturers and students by adding drill well in simulator software solutions to our arsenal.
“This to help energy professionals at E&P companies, operators, and service companies save cost, improve safety, and increase efficiency of drilling operations.”
Derek Nadhan , manager of technical services for the APAC region, added: “We have a long history of working with academic institutions worldwide. Digitalization is more than just digitizing drilling operations; it is as much about building digital-ready organizations and capabilities.”
According to BP’s statistics, Vietnam ranked 28th among 52 countries that have oil and gas potential in the world. By the end of 2015, the proven crude oil reserves of Vietnam were approximately 4.4 billion barrels and ranked the country in first place in Southeast Asia, while proven gas reserves were about 0.6 tcm and ranked it third in Southeast Asia after Indonesia and Malaysia.
Petrovietnam said in one of its journals in 2016 that there were more than 40 international oil companies operating in Vietnam. Several major oil companies are co-operating with Petrovietnam, mainly in the upstream sector, such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, KNOC, Gazprom, Petronas, PTTEP, Total, and Rosneft.
