The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) could double the number of slots dedicated for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers transiting the canal.
Currently, only one LNG carrier is allowed to transit the canal daily, but the authority is looking to double that number by October next year, Platts reports.
An additional slot for LNG transit could be open if the daylight restrictions, currently in place, are lifted.
Citing a shipping source, Platts, notes that all LNG slots have been booked through the third quarter of 2018.
So far over 171 LNG carriers have transited the Panama Canal, making up 8.6 percent of the total transits recorded since the opening of the expanded canal last year.
