Lithuanian natural gas trading company, Litgas, part of Lietuvos Energia, will supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) by trucks to Polish electricity and gas seller Duon.

The LNG will be supplied from Klaipedos Nafta’s new onshore LNG reloading station at the Klaipeda port.

Litgas will supply Duon with “several hundred cubic meters of LNG” by trucks during October and November, the company said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Polish company will then supply the fuel to its customers not connected to the gas grid.

“The deal with Duon is important to us because it is the start of our new commercial activity – onshore LNG supply that will allow us to diversify our business,” said Vytautas Čekanavičius , acting chief executive of Litgas.

This deal, Lithuania’s first, and the opening of the new LNG reloading station in Klaipeda are expected to boost the development of the onshore LNG supply market in Lithuania.

Lithuania, the largest of the three Baltic nations started importing LNG in December 2014 via Hoegh LNG’s FSRU Independence in Klaipeda in order to reduce its dependence on Russian pipeline gas supplies.

The FSRU currently provides Lithuania with roughly half of its gas needs with the rest being sourced from Russian Gazprom.
