An Indian crewmember of the oil/chemical tanker Bochem Oslo was airlifted by South Africa’s Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) helicopter following a request for medical assistance from the ship’s crew.
The 39-year-old crewman was suffering chest pains.
The sea rescue craft Eikos Rescuer II was launched accompanied by 2 Netcare 911 rescue paramedics.
The ship was anchored some ten nautical miles off the Port of Durban, South Africa’s National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) informed.
“On arrival on the scene the TNPA helicopter hoisted the NSRI Durban rescue swimmer and the Netcare 911 rescue paramedic onto the ship where they stabilized the patient,” NSRI further added.
“The patient was hoisted into the helicopter secured onto a stretcher and the paramedic was hoisted into the helicopter and the patient was flown to a Durban hospital, in the care of the paramedic, in a stable condition suffering from a suspected heart attack.”
The Panama-flagged tanker remains at anchor off Durban, South Africa, based on the latest AIS data from Marine Traffic. The owner of the 2010-built ship is Belgium’s Bocimar.
