Navingo’s Siwart Mackintosh has sent us this beautiful image of the deepwater construction vessel Aegir, taken on the break of dawn on Monday in Schiedam, the Netherlands.
Offshore Energy Today reported earlier this month that HMC was waiting for the Aegir to dock for maintenance at Huisman Schiedam’s yard.
Named after the Norse god of the sea, also sometimes also referred to as a sea giant, the vessel is expected to remain in the yard until the end of the year.
The Aegir was built by the DSME yard in South Korea and named in September 2013. Huisman was in charge of the installation of the pipelay equipment.
The 210 meters long and 46 meters wide vessel is capable of executing complex infrastructure and pipeline projects in ultra-deepwater and has sufficient lifting capacity to install fixed platforms in relatively shallow water. The design is a customized Ulstein Sea of Solutions SOC 5000.
The living quarters are equipped to accommodate 289 persons in single and double cabins, with a maximum of 305 persons. Its first project was the installation of riser at Anadarko’s Lucius field in the Gulf of Mexico.
