The Environment Agency has been working with partners to help reduce the risk of flooding from Rising Brook in Rugeley, Staffordshire.
The flood defense scheme, worth £4 million, is being developed in partnership with Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire Local Enterprise Partnership, Staffordshire County Council and Cannock Chase District Council.
According to EA’s latest update, the project is now heading towards the later stages of the construction phase.
“ Sheet piling has finished and the contractors are building up the end of the embankment that forms the main feature of the flood storage area. More clay will be imported over coming few weeks so there will be increased vehicle movements ,” reported the Environment Agency.
Overall, the scheme involves constructing an embankment on the playing fields near Western Springs Road that can store water during heavy rainfall. It also includes improving the playing fields, and repairing the collapsing footbridge which forms part of Cannock Chase Heritage Trail.
