Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) has been awarded a procurement and construction contract for the Noble Energy’s Leviathan vent boom under the Heerema Marine Contractors’ transport and installation contract.
To remind, Heerema Marine Contractors was awarded a contract in April for transportation and installation services associated with the Leviathan production platform in the Mediterranean Sea, marking Heerema’s first contract for its new semi-submersible crane vessel Sleipnir.
The project announced on Friday, October 20 marks the second contract for a Noble Energy project after being awarded the Tamar Vent Boom in 2012, Heerema said.
According to the company, the construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2018 at the Heerema yard in Zwijndrecht, the Netherlands, in order to be ready for sail away second quarter 2019.
The vent boom will have a length of over 130 meters and will be lifted into position offshore by Heerema Marine Contractors’ newest heavy lift vessel Sleipnir.
The Noble Energy-operated Leviathan gas field is located approximately 125 km west of Haifa, Israel, and 35 km west of the Tamar field, in the Eastern Mediterranean Levantine Basin. The project will be a subsea production system connecting high-rate subsea wells to a fixed platform. The subsea production system and fixed platform will be designed to accommodate up to 2,100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd).
The Leviathan project was sanctioned last February, targeting first production for the end of 2019. The first phase of development of the Leviathan is expected to cost around $3.75 billion.
