Offshore Wind Breaks Record in Belgium

On Sunday, 22 October, wind turbines off the Belgium’s coast generated a record-breaking 20 GWh of electricity, according to WindEurope’s Daily Wind Power Numbers.

On Sunday, 22 October, wind turbines off the Belgium’s coast generated a record-breaking 20 GWh of electricity, according to WindEurope’s Daily Wind Power Numbers.

The total share of wind energy in Belgian electricity mix was at 18.9% on Sunday, with onshore wind generating 19 GWh.

Belgium has six operational offshore wind farms, including three phases of Thornton Bank, Belwind, Northwind and Nobelwind. The country is also set to see another wind farm in its waters as the Rentel project currently under construction.

On 2 October offshore wind farms across Europe broke the record by generating 264 GWh of electricity.
