Faroe Petroleum, an oil and gas company focusing principally on Norway and the UK, has appointed a new independent non-executive director.
Faroe said on Wednesday that Brent Cheshire would be the company’s new director. His appointment to the company’s board takes effect immediately.
Cheshire began his career with Shell as a geologist in its exploration and production division, eventually spending fourteen years with the group. In 1991, he joined Amerada Hess, holding several senior positions, ultimately as a senior VP for E&P worldwide technology, where he was responsible for all global technical activities.
In 2004, he became DONG Energy’s first UK employee as managing director of its UK E&P business. Over the next 13 years, Cheshire became managing director of DONG Wind Power and chairman of its entire UK operations.
During his executive career with DONG, he also participated in the setting up of an onshore energy producer IGas Energy serving as technical director and board member. He left DONG Energy in June this year after 13 years with the company.
“With four independent non-executive directors, Faroe is fully compliant with the UK Corporate Governance Code stipulation that half the board comprise non-executive directors determined by the board to be independent,” the company said. Faroe added that the company would continue its process of progressive refreshment of the board.
John Bentley , non-executive chairman of Faroe Petroleum, said: “Brent is a seasoned E&P operator, which, when combined with his extensive corporate leadership positions, adds significant strength to the Faroe board at this time in the company’s evolution.”
Cheshire’s former employer DONG decided to change its name recently following the completion of its upstream oil and gas business sale, which also marked the company’s exit from the oil and gas business overall.
