Offshore support vessel provider Sentinel Marine has deployed its newbuild multi-role emergency response and rescue vessel (ERRV) to begin work in the southern North Sea.
The vessel in question is the Forties Sentinel, which is a part of a £110 million ($145M) investment. The owner said on Wednesday that the vessel was officially named at a ceremony in Great Yarmouth.
The Forties Sentinel is contracted to INEOS to provide support for the company’s production facilities in the Breagh gas field. INEOS also chartered Sentinel Marine’s ERRV Sentinel Ranger for work on the field.
The company further added that the 61-meter vessel was named in a quayside ceremony by the ship’s godmother, Ylva Tuft , the wife of INEOS Oil & Gas CEO, Geir Tuft . The charter for the Forties Sentinel was brokered by Braemar ACM Shipbrokers.
It is the second vessel to be christened by Sentinel Marine in recent weeks, with the Mariner Sentinel deployed to Statoil’s Mariner field last month.
The vessel is one of nine newbuild ERRVs ordered by the company. Six are already in operation, three are in various stages of construction in China and due for delivery in 2017 and 2018.
