FORESEA picks six offshore renewable energy winners
The FORESEA program has approved six offshore renewable energy technology projects for support in its third call for applications. The technology developers selected for support include Blackfish, Bombora Wave Power, IDEOL, Interdrones, Kornwerderzand, and Scotrenewables Tidal Power.
Welsh marine test site gets funding boost
Welsh government has awarded £1.2 million for the development of a Marine Energy Test Area (META) project in the Milford Haven Waterway. The funding will support the development of a network of pre-consented areas of seabed that will support research, component testing, innovation, deployment techniques and scaled device deployment.
Nova Scotia backs tidal energy research
Research Nova Scotia Trust has awarded funding to three tidal energy research projects that aim to fill the knowledge gaps associated with the development of the sector. The three tidal energy projects selected for funding are part of a C$6.5 million ($5.1 million) funding award for nine projects that are expected advance understanding and knowledge in ocean sciences and technologies.
Researchers complete first set of CEFOW ecological studies
Plymouth and Exeter universities have completed the first set of ecological studies as part of the EU Horizon 2020 funded Clean Energy from Ocean Waves (CEFOW) project. As part of the CEFOW project, the ecological surveys will take place over three consecutive summers to investigate the cumulative impact of multiple WECs on the seabed habitat and associated ecosystem.
Bluerise beats OTEC crowdfunding target
Dutch developer Bluerise has opened its crowdfunding campaign for overfunding after reaching the initial target of €250,000 weeks before the end of the campaign. After reaching the target, Bluerise decided to open the campaign to overfunding, targeting €500,000. The funds will be used to develop Bluerise’s OTEC projects in Jamaica and Curaçao.
