Poland’s first LNG regasification terminal in the port of Swinoujscie has resumed operations after powerful winds hammered the facility on Sunday causing damage to a pipeline located on top of one of the terminal’s tanks.
The pipeline used for monitoring the gas level in one of the tanks sustained damage and was shut down early Sunday after a gantry fell on it causing a small release of gas into the atmosphere.
Situation at the LNG import terminal has been brought under control and operations have been restored, according to the operator, Gaz-System.
“The regasification of liquefied natural gas and transmission of gas to the domestic transmission system were resumed on Sunday evening,” a Gaz-System spokesperson told LNG World News on Monday.
“All the operational parameters of the system are being constantly monitored. There is no threat to life or health of Świnoujście residents or employees of the LNG terminal,” the spokesperson said.
Works are underway to resume the full functionality of the system.
Polish first LNG terminal operated by Gaz-System’s unit Polskie LNG is Poland’s flagship project to diversify gas supplies and reduce dependence on pipeline imports from Russia.
Gaz-System has earlier this year made a decision to expand the plant’s capacity to 7.5 billion cubic meters per year instead of the current 5 bcm/y.
