Guinard Energies has completed the demonstration of its P66 tidal turbine in the port of Brest ahead of its upcoming installation in French Guiana.
The French start-up Guinard Energies said the 3.5kW tidal turbine will ‘very soon’ be installed in French Guiana where it will provide power for the research station of French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
The electricity production from the turbine has been validated during Brest demonstration, and according to Guinard Energies, it aligned perfectly with the laboratory forecasts.
Guinard Energies will supply the equipment to manage the hybrid production system from renewable energy sources consisting of photovoltaic panels, the P66 turbine and batteries, to optimize the energy supply for the station which is currently powered by generators, the company said.
The company also said it is proceeding with the development of stronger turbines, including the 20kW variant called the P154. Also, Guinard Energies plans to install the P400 tidal turbine next year in Ria d’Etel in France. The P400 is 4 meters in diameter with the rated capacity of up to 250kW.
To remind, Guinard Energies was recently backed the French Agency for Environment and Energy Management (ADEME) which provided funding to the company to further advance its tidal turbine installation system.
