Honeywell said its Amine Guard technology has been removing carbon dioxide from natural gas onboard Petronas’ floating LNG facility, PFLNG Satu that was commissioned in April.
Honeywell’s technology, specially adapted for marine applications, is the first used on an FLNG facility, the company said in its statement.
Honeywell UOP adapted the technology to compensate for vessel motion, ensuring that the system can remove carbon dioxide from natural gas during all anticipated ocean conditions.
“Natural gas must contain fewer than 50 parts per million of carbon dioxide to be liquefied, and that has been very difficult to achieve in a floating LNG installation until now,” said Rachelle Goebel , vice president and general manager of Honeywell UOP’s Gas Processing and Hydrogen business.
PFLNG Satu, the first such facility in the world, operates in shallow water depths of between 70 meters and 200 meters, with a processing capacity of 1.2 million tons per annum (mpta). The unit produced the first LNG in December last year and loaded the first cargo in April this year.
