Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA) has hired several experts to determine if there is a practical business case for establishing and operating a small-scale tidal test facility in Nova Scotia.

OERA awarded the ‘Nova Scotia Small Tidal Test Center – Establishing a Business Case’ project to Shelley MacDougall of S.L. MacDougall Research & Consulting; Greg Trowse, Luna Ocean Consulting; Richard Karsten from Acadia Tidal Energy Institute, and Darren Hayes from Dare Technology (Ireland).

The announcement follows the recently launched request for proposals by OERA on behalf of Nova Scotia Department of Energy (NSDOE) and Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA).

NDOE is interested in exploring a variety of small-scale, tidal energy test center opportunities in Nova Scotia, with a focus on the economic benefits that might accrue from developing a small-scale test facility.

The project is expected to be completed within 3-4 months, OERA said earlier.

OERA leads energy-related research projects that enable the sustainable development of Nova Scotia’s offshore energy resources through strategic partnerships with academia, government and industry.
