UK subsea company Rovco has been awarded a three-year contract for inspection services at the Gwynt y Môr offshore wind farm, after winning a tender launched by innogy.

The inspection of the wind farm’s offshore assets is part of an ongoing maintenance plan.

Under the contract, Rovco will be providing its underwater ROV 3D visual survey solution, alongside traditional video, blueview sonar and cathodic protection analysis techniques. The company will deploy its Sub-Atlantic Mojave ROV kitted out with 3D inspection equipment, and said that these observation class ROVs are best suited to the issues associated with the strong currents found in the Liverpool Bay area.

Rovco chief executive and founder, Brian Allen , said: “Being awarded this three-year contract to support the Gwynt y Môr offshore windfarm demonstrates our growing reputation for providing clients with the most reliable and state of the art underwater inspection solutions based from smaller, more cost-effective, vessels and ROV platforms.”

The 576MW Gwynt y Môr is the second largest operating offshore wind farm in the world. It features 160 Siemens 3.6MW turbines connected to two offshore substations. The wind farm – a GBP 2 billion partnership between innogy, Stadtwerke München and Siemens – was fully commissioned in June 2015.
