Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo) has started the installation of components for the Bourne Tidal Test Site (BTTS) being built in Cape Cod Canal in Massachusetts.
AGM Marine is installing the piles that will hold the Bourne tidal test structure on behalf of MRECo, a non-profit organization in charge of the development of the site.
The work is taking place in the water off the railroad bridge and the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Cape Cod Canal Field Office.
MRECo said earlier the works are expected to be completed by the end of this week.
The structure will be sited approximately 10 meters south of the west end of the railroad bridge.
Water velocity has been measured at over 2 meters/second (4 knots) on the maximum tidal cycle in both directions at the site.
MRECo anticipates that turbines of up to 3 meters in diameter will be tested at BTTS with maximum output of 100kW.
