Halliburton, one of the world’s largest oilfield services providers, and the Akwa Ibom state government have opened Nigeria’s first oil and gas training center equipped with oilfield operations tools.

The Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Training and Research Center will provide courses in field development, drilling and completions engineering, well intervention solutions and digital technologies to local energy employees and students, Halliburton informed on Thursday.

Halliburton Landmark will provide the training curriculum, instructors, software, workstations and tools to be used in the classroom. The Akwa Ibom state government provided the facility infrastructure.

“We believe Nigeria has great oil and gas potential, and the country will play a key role in the global energy industry within the next decade. We are pleased to collaborate with the Akwa Ibom government to bring the first of its kind oil and gas training and research center to the Sub-Sahara Africa region,” said Henry Oki , area vice president of Halliburton Nigeria. “With this facility, Akwa Ibom, Nigeria’s largest crude oil producer, can provide a robust range of oil and gas development courses to local students and employees.”

“This facility is a great addition to our region and will help boost our state’s revenue and tourism potentials because oil companies can now train their employees within Nigeria rather than sending them out of the country for the latest education in oil and gas development,” said Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Science and Technology Professor Nse Essien .

The Akwa Ibom Oil and Gas Training and Research Center will support over 3000 students annually and will provide more than 50 courses in oil and gas development.
