Moray Offshore Windfarm (East) Ltd and Siemens have signed a Preferred Bidder Agreement (PBA) for the onshore works, and offshore substation platform topsides for the 950MW Moray East offshore wind farm.
The scope includes the design, supply, construction and installation of the onshore substation, some 30km of onshore underground export cable, and three offshore substations including the topside structures.
Moray Offshore Windfarm East is a joint venture company owned by EDP Renewables (77%) and ENGIE (23%). The project was recently awarded a GBP 57.50/MWh contract for Difference (CfD) by the UK Government.
“Siemens selection for the electrical infrastructure is a major announcement for the project and we are delighted to bring the experience of a major global player to this project which will deliver electricity at less than half the cost of projects being installed today,” Oscar Diaz , Project Director of Moray East said.
“This work package will bring major economic opportunities to the supply chain, and we look forward to working with Siemens to realise them. We expect to announce full details of a local supply chain engagement event in the coming weeks.”
Moray East is expected to make the Final Investment Decision on the project in the second half of 2018.
Located in the Outer Moray Firth off Scotland, Moray East will comprise 100 MHI Vestas 9.5MW turbines scheduled for commissioning in 2022.
DEME’s GeoSea is responsible for the supply and installation of turbine and substation foundations, as well as the transport and installation of offshore substation platforms.
VBMS, part of Boskalis, will supply and install the inter-array cables on the wind farm.
