Nova Scotia’s early stage venture capital organization Innovacorp has appointed two new members to its board of directors.

The new appointments are David Wilson, President of Wilsons Security, and Dawn Umlah, Chief Operating Officer of Spring Loaded Technology.

Wilson has extensive venture capital experience as an early stage investor and board member.

Prior to becoming the President of Wilsons Security, he worked in the venture capital industry since the start of his career in 1993, when he joined TA Associates. He has been a member of Innovacorp’s investment committee since October 2011.

David Wilson said: “ I have worked with many early stage growth companies, and I look forward to helping Innovacorp build on the existing momentum in the Nova Scotia start-up community. It’s an exciting time to be involved with Innovacorp for the great work they do for technology innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Dawn Umlah brings extensive experience in assisting start-ups and small, growing companies in the technology sectors. She has held leadership roles with more than 15 high-growth technology companies and several venture-backed companies. From 2013 to 2016, Umlah was an investment manager and entrepreneur-in-residence at Innovacorp.

Geoff MacLellan , Nova Scotia’s Minister for Business and Energy, said: “Innovacorp plays a critical role in advancing Nova Scotia’s economic growth strategy. I congratulate Wilson and Umlah on their appointments to the board and look forward to working with them on growing our vibrant start-up community and creating more opportunities for Nova Scotians.”

Innovacrop works to find, fund and foster innovative Nova Scotia start-ups.

As reported earlier, Innovacorp provided funding for research projects looking to advance tidal energy sector through collaboration with Offshore Energy Research Association of Nova Scotia (OERA), and Nova Scotia’s Department of Energy.
