Danish research and consultancy organization DHI has launched an online portal that offers instant access to metocean data and analytics.

The DHI MetOcean Data Portal allows users to download and validate nearly 40 years of metocean data, including the information on wind, wave, water level and currents.

The newly launched portal is based on extensive wave and hydrodynamic modelling using MIKE Powered by DHI software.

Before purchasing the data, users are able to request for site-specific validation of wind and wave data against satellite altimeter measurements, according to DHI.

Anders Sørrig Mouritze n, Director and Technical Lead at C2Wind, said: “The MetOcean Data Portal is a leap forward when it comes to the availability and accessibility of decades of high-quality metocean data. It has already greatly improved our responsiveness within planning and FEED design of support structures in the offshore wind sector.”

Metocean is a discipline covering meteorology and physical oceanography related to quantifying the impact and effect of weather and sea conditions, such as winds, waves, currents, and water levels on various activities in the renewable energy and offshore oil and gas sectors.
